Cattle slaughterhouse preparation checklist for a new plant or retrofit

Collect cattle route, authority, animal, product, building, rail, utility, waste and cold-chain inputs before a new abattoir or line upgrade proposal.

Use this checklist for a new cattle facility or a measured review of an existing line. Mark unknowns for the appropriate engineer or authority rather than filling them with assumptions.

Operating route and local review

  • Country, district, site location and intended product market
  • Halal or non-halal conventional route, nominated certifier where applicable
  • Veterinary, building, land-use and environmental application contacts
  • Accepted/proposed stunning, slaughter and verification procedure

Animals, products and working pattern

  • Cattle type and live-weight/size range supported by the business brief
  • Requested throughput, operating hours and seasonal pattern as buyer requirements
  • Carcass, quarter or cut-product output; offal and hide destinations
  • Receiving, lairage, inspection and rejected-material arrangements

Measured building and retained equipment

  • Plan and section drawings with floor levels, usable height, columns and doors
  • Existing rails, support structure, platforms, controls and machines to retain
  • Installation and maintenance access; proposed civil modifications
  • Cold-room location, rail entry and product loading arrangement

Site services and contractor boundaries

  • Power supply and distribution, water, compressed air and selected hydraulic connections
  • Cleaning/sanitation services and drainage/collection points
  • Wastewater treatment review and local discharge route
  • Refrigeration brief, by-product handling, transport and commissioning responsibilities

Before the order is placed

Check that the proposal states configuration, drawings, services, inclusions/exclusions and buyer responsibilities. Agree the installation and acceptance process, and confirm how authority or certifier comments are incorporated before the design is frozen. Requested throughput is a brief input, not a website performance guarantee.
